Young female writers form new
association

A
new association called The Nigerian Women Writers’ Forum (NIWOWF) has been
formed.
Initiated
by the Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW), the body’s aim is to be “a
uniquely ingenious, exploratory and educative platform geared toward inspiring
young female writers from all parts of Nigeria in fanning their writing talent,
and providing opportunities for exhibiting their works.”
A
statement from the National Secretary of NIWOWF, Amarachi Udechukwu further
explained that, “This forum is designed to bring young female writers from age
10 to 40 together under a structure of mentoring and support. It is an avenue
to encourage an interpersonal educative atmosphere and outstanding creativity
in their writing skills and techniques.”
She
explained that the association will achieve its aims by organising workshops,
symposia, and conferences for both upcoming and aspiring female writers.
NIWOWF,
she added, will also institute the Nigerian Women Writers Merit Awards and
annual Nigerian Women Writers conventions.
Udechukwu
said the group plans to honour Ify Omalicha, Buchi Emecheta, Flora Nwapa, Mabel
Segun, Zulu Shofola, Balaraba Ramat, and Professor Biola Odejide for their
individual contributions to women development and creative writing in Nigeria.
She
also disclosed that a five-person council has been appointed to run the affairs
of the association. They are .Shola Phebian Oguntoyinbo (National Coordinator),
Amarachi Udechukwu( National Secretary), Rita Okonoboh(National PRO), Hajara
Hussaini Ashara(National Financial Secretary) and Ajayi Zenami Temilade
(National Treasurer)
There
is also the NIWOWF National Teen Writers’ council comprising Adeniyi Adeyinka
Florence(Nat. Coordinator), Oyebade Monsurat( Secretary), Raji Rashidat (PRO)
and Adedoyin Monsurat (Treasurer).
